The Importance of Personal Growth for Life and Career
Complacency is often the root cause of feeling unmotivated, stuck or dissatisfied with life or work. While we tend to need certainty in our lives, we also crave uncertainty and change. This time of year, it’s easy to fall into the habit of waiting for new years to make these changes because it’s only a few short months away. But what if you could create momentum toward your goals now by diving into personal growth so that 2021 is the best year you ever had?
Jim Rohn has taught that your energy creates your reality. Since our brain is designed to look for threats and problems, it’s very easy for humans to focus on what’s going wrong or what could go wrong. This dramatically impacts our energy from day to day and how we show up at work, with our family and for ourselves. Personal development is vital to keeping our brain focused on what we do want to attract in our life. What you focus on, you manifest more of. Focusing on the fact that your career isn’t where you want it to be can block your ability to see new opportunities. Focusing on the fact that you are not feeling well physically can impact your motivation to go exercise. If you focus on what’s going wrong, you’ll find more of what’s wrong. Create fulfillment in your life through a personal development routine that will raise your energy daily!
How to add personal development to your daily routine:
Take care of your body. Sleep well, exercise and eat healthy foods. Moving your body creates massive change in your energy, mood and ability to respond to stress. It’s the ultimate form of personal development.
Read or listen to 10 pages of a personal development book or podcast per day. This can be books on self-help, habits, potential, leadership, emotional intelligence, motivation or tactical tips on how to do a specific thing or reach a goal.
Make a list in the morning or evening of at least 5 things that went well that day. This is your daily wins list that will help you constantly search for positives and will reinforce that things are going well for you.
If you’re feeling stuck, look back on the last 90 days and what you have been doing each day with your routines. Be specific. Decide what routines are not serving you and execute a plan to change them (ex: hitting the snooze button everyday can be changed by putting your alarm across the bedroom or going to bed at a reasonable hour the night before)
Develop your skills within your field by continuing to learn new information through seminars, continuing education or finding a mentor.
